fastLAW

Counterclaim is pleased to offer fastLAW, our judicial case management system designed for the unique needs of your court.

  • fastLAW is efficient; enabling court staff to spend more time focusing on real issues instead of wasting valuable time with repetitive tasks.
  • fastLAW is comprehensive; it was built with constant feedback from court personnel whose input guided our efforts.
  • fastLAW is cost effective; because it is a web based application it allows users to access through a standard web browser and the workstation they are already comfortable using. There is no need for extensive hardware upgrades to operate the system.
  • fastLAW is affordable; because we do not charge individual annual user licenses, the long-term cost of the system is much less compared to other products on the market.
  • fastLAW is customizable; we incorporate your Court’s Business rules, Court rules, Rules of Procedure, and forms and templates into the system, allowing you to use systems already in place. (If your court needs assistance in developing any of these, we offer consultation as part of our package.)
  • fastLAW is secure; using a system of actors and roles to ensure that users of the system are only able to access information that is pertinent to their job.

Counterclaim’s Case Management System (fastLAW) provides advanced case management processes and functions for courts. Cases are entered, traced and reported for all parties, accelerating due process for all involved.

counterclaim’s fastLAW is designed to accommodate the changing business needs and statutory requirements that face courts, enforcement, prosecutors and defenders. This flexible design comes from separating the information into three logical areas: people, the case and case relationships. The result: fastLAW provides immediate access to high-quality information, increasing efficiency and reducing downtime.

People

fastLAW lets you build a large, commonly shared directory of information on people, such as defendants, suspects, attorneys, judges and witnesses, and victims services. After you’ve entered a person’s information, you can modify it as needed, when needed. The “people” information you can collect includes:

  • Demographics
  • Aliases
  • Identification
  • Employment
  • Schooling
  • Health
  • Treatments
  • Substance Abuse
  • Public Notes
  • Service Information

fastLAW provides you with a common interface across the application, making it easy to navigate and interpret your data quickly. The fastLAW search screens all look and function similarly, providing you with fast access to critical information. For example, you can search for people by partial names, Social Security numbers, birth dates and several other fields. For more complicated searches, you can use the fastLAW query function to build a customized query on virtually all the information you’ve collected.

The Case

Much of the information defining a case is collected at the time of arrest, while other case data is updated as the case moves through the judicial process. The case information that fastLAW tracks includes:

  • Original Charges
  • Filed Charges
  • Intake Information
  • Charge Disposition
  • Sentencing Information
  • Time or Costs Expended
  • Diversion Offers
  • Private Case Notes
  • Progress/Appearance Docket

Case Relationships

Case Relationships link people to a case. People are defined by the role they play in a case. Because an individual’s information is independent of the case, the same person may participate in different roles and cases. Information collected with the relationships includes role, relationship notes, contacts and witness/victim details.

Flexibility

Our fastLAW solution is developed with flexibility in mind. This means that fastLAW can be customized to accommodate the unique needs of your court and reflect the unique workflow of your court.

Document Generation

fastLAW is a scalable solution for generating documentation. You can define mail merge templates using a selection of merge variables that are defined in the system. If a merge variable you need is not available, it is defined based on information in the database, or gathered from you when the document is generated.

Report Generation

fastLAW comes with a selection of predefined reports. In addition to the predefined reports, we can create personalized reports. This flexibility lets fastLAW adapt to your changing needs.

Calendaring

fastLAW has three levels of calendaring: personal, case and location. Personal calendaring manages all events at the user level. Case calendars manage events at a case level and synchronize events among all participates associated with the case. Location calendar is a master calendar and managers events associated at all participants at the court. Calendar events are both manually and automatically generated. Automatic or routine events are triggered by business, practice and court rules.

Security

Protecting the data is as important as tracking it. fastLAW provides protection by administrator-defined profiles. Using the administrator-defined profiles, the system can be configured to restrict access for each control on a screen. With these powerful features, data is protected from accidental disclosure or modification. Security may be further enhanced using encryption and certificates.
